Why a Stair Lift is Worth the Investment
Whether you’re considering a stairlift for yourself, or for an elderly or disabled friend or relative, it can be daunting to see the cost. They’re highly technical and durable machines, which can explain some of the cost, but perhaps not justify it for everyone. As a provider of stairlifts Salt Lake City, we know that while some people may want a stairlift for their loved one, they may struggle to understand the cost.
As with anything, the cost of a stairlift should always be considered next to the cost of not having one and the subsequent situations that may occur. Without a stairlift, your loved one may struggle their way up and down the stairs each day, risking injury. As a provider of stairlifts Salt Lake City, we believe it’s important to really explore why they are worth the investment.
Here is an overview of why a stairlift, or any related mobility products, could prove useful as a long-term investment.
Healthcare in America
The healthcare system in America is pushing people to try and prevent illness and injury to not have to deal with healthcare or insurance providers. In fact, it’s so bad here that on telling people from other countries what we pay for healthcare, many are outright disgusted, and rightly so. Although sadly it doesn’t seem that the current system is going to change, so we have to find ways to work around it.
Cost of Getting to the Hospital
While there are many factors involved in calculating how much you can expect to pay for an injury, we do have some rates for typical services.
Here in Utah, these are the following rates for an ambulance, which you would typically call when an elderly or disabled person has fallen up or down the stairs:
Base rates
– A ground ambulance is $795.00 per transport
– Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) ground ambulance is $1,049.00
– Paramedic ground ambulance is $1,535.00
– Paramedic on-board (paramedic not employed by licensed ambulance provider) may charge up to $486.00 on top of Advanced EMT cost for a total of $1,535.00
Mileage rates
– The standard rate is $31.65 per mile or fraction thereof, this is computed from the point of pick-up to the point of patient delivery
– In instances where diesel exceeds $5.10 per gallon or gasoline exceeds $4.25 per gallon invoiced, a $0.25 surcharge per mile traveled may apply
– An off-road rate may be charged when the ambulance has to drive on unpaved roads for ten miles or more at $1.50 per mile

Considering all of this, if your loved one lives 20 miles from their local hospital and has a nasty fall, they can be looking at a minimum cost of $1,428 just to get to the hospital. It’s no wonder why people are so hesitant to call an ambulance nowadays, although when someone is injured from falling it’s always best to have a paramedic help move them.
Cost of Freedom
As you can see, the financial cost of not getting a stairlift is quite high and can make each voyage up or down the stairs a gamble. Although your loved one shouldn’t be concerned about their ambulance bills each time they reach the stairway in their home. A common “band-aid” solution is to simply move everything they need onto one level to remove the necessity for a stairlift, although this infringes on their freedom.
Regardless of your age or ability, having the freedom to move around your own home is your God-given right and should be protected at all costs. Instead of trying to limit your loved one’s movements around the house in an attempt to protect them from injury and therefore expensive bills, consider investing in a reconditioned stairlift.
Reconditioned Stair Lift
Unlike our brand new stairlifts, our reconditioned stairlifts may be much more affordable to the average household of an elderly or disabled person or couple. The only downside to reconditioned stairlifts is that they can’t be tailored to your exact needs, other than this they function exactly as their brand new counterparts.
We offer our reconditioned stairlift and installation at $1995.00, which is a fraction of the cost of a brand new stairlift. This can offer your loved ones the freedom to move around their home without the threat of a crippling medical bill looming over them.
